Ethics Assessment

The Georgia Educator Ethics Assessments are designed to both teach and assess knowledge of the Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators and ethical skills to guide behaviors and decision making.

There are two different Educator Ethics Assessments and each assessment has two levels, Program Entry and Program Exit:
  • The Georgia Educator Ethics assessment is designed for beginning and currently practicing teachers.
  • The Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership assessment is designed for educational leaders.
The following individuals must complete the Educator Ethics Assessment - Program Entry:
  • Applicants for Pre-Service certificates who enrolled in educator preparation programs on July 1, 2014, or later.
  • Applicants for Induction Pathway 4 teaching certificates.
The following individuals must pass the Educator Ethics Assessment - Program Exit:
  • Applicants for Induction Pathway 1 or 2 teaching certificates.
  • Applicants for conversion of Induction Pathway 3 or 4 teaching certificates.
  • Applicants for extension of an initial Permit in a teaching field.
Georgia educators who held professional Georgia certification prior to 2015 are not required to take the Educator Ethics Assessments to maintain certification.

The following individuals must complete the Ethics for Educational Leadership Assessment - Program Entry:
  • All candidates admitted (enrolled and taking classes) to any GaPSC-approved Educational Leadership program on or after July 1, 2016.
    • Candidates, who completed this Program Entry requirement for Educational Leadership Tier I, do not have to complete it again for Educational Leadership Tier II.
  • Applicants who are placed in a leadership position prior to completing an approved program and are issued a non-renewable Educational Leadership certificate.
The following individuals must complete the Ethics for Educational Leadership Assessment - Program Exit:
  • All candidates completing any GaPSC-approved Educational Leadership program (non-tiered program or the tiered model) on or after July 1, 2016 must pass the assessment to earn certification in Educational Leadership.
    • Candidates, who pass this Program Exit requirement for Educational Leadership Tier I certification, do not have to pass it again for Educational Leadership Tier II certification.
