Math/Science Task Force Report and HR 1103 Teacher Certification Study Committee

The Alliance of Education Agency Heads directed Kelly Henson, Executive Secretary of the Professional Standards Commission, to establish a state-wide task force to address the shortage of mathematics and science teachers. The Math/Science Task Force Report includes eight proposals in the following areas: differentiated pay for math and science teachers; differentiated pay for ECE teachers with math and science endorsements; a new high school/middle school core content alternative route to certification; a new "Adjunct Faculty" credential; service cancelable loans; increasing the number of state-approved science programs; beginning math/science teacher induction/retention program; and, using technology to support math/science instruction and certification.

The full report of the Math/Science Task Force is available here (PDF 1.7Mb).

On August 27, 2008 Mr. Henson presented educator work force data and the Math/Science Task Force proposals to the House Resolution (HR) 1103 Teacher Certification Study Committee.

The power point used for the presentation is available here (PPS 454Kb).

In November, 2008 a Georgia Focus Radio interview of Mr. Henson addressed the Math/Science Report. A soundtrack of the broadcast is available here
