Preparation - Submit Preconditions

For Developmental Unit Reviews, the Preconditions are due 2 semesters prior to the anticipated on-site review.
For Developmental Program Reviews, Preconditions are not required.
For Continuing Reviews, the Preconditions are due 3 semesters prior to the anticipated on-site review.
Required Documentation for Preconditions
Precondition #1
A written description of the professional education unit outlines the unit's responsibilities and authority for the preparation of teachers and other professional education personnel.
1.1 Letter from the institution's/agency's chief executive officer that designates the unit with primary authority and responsibility for educator preparation programs.
1.2 Job description for the head of the professional education unit.
1.3 A list of all professional education programs offered by the institution/agency, including nontraditional/alternative and off-campus programs. This list must indicate the geographic location of the programs and the degrees offered.
1.4 A chart depicting the structure of the unit within the institution/agency and its oversight of nontraditional/alternative and off-campus programs.
Precondition #2
A dean, director, or chair is officially designated to represent the unit and assigned the authority and responsibility for its overall administration and operation.
2.1 An organizational chart of the unit that includes the programs located administratively within the unit, including nontraditional/alternative and off-campus programs. The organization chart(or a second one) indicates the relationship of the unit to other administrative units at the institution/agency.
Precondition #3
Written policies and procedures guide the operations of the unit.
3.1 Cover page and table of contents for codified policies; by laws; procedures; and student handbooks.
Precondition #4
The unit has a well-developed conceptual framework that establishes the shared vision for the unit's efforts in preparing educators to work in P-12 schools and provides direction for programs, courses, teaching, candidate performance, scholarship, service, and unit accountability. (*For developmental reviews, this may be a working draft. See Handbook, p. 107)
4.1 Written statements of the missions of the institution and of the unit.
4.2 Written statement of the unit's philosophy, purposes, professional commitments, and dispositions.
4.3 Description of the knowledge bases underlying the unit's operations, including theories, research, the wisdom of practice, and education policies.
4.4 Performance outcomes for candidates, including those in professional, state, and institutional standards.
4.5 A description of the system by which candidate performance is regularly assessed.
Precondition #5
The unit regularly monitors and evaluates its operation, scope, quality of its offerings, and performance of candidates and graduates.
5.1 Description of the unit's assessment and data collection systems that support unit responses to Standards 1 and 2. (*For developmental reviews, this may be a working draft.)
Precondition #6
The unit has criteria for admission to all initial teacher preparation and advanced programs.
6.1 List of requirements for admission into all initial preparation and advanced programs, including nontraditional/alternative and off-campus programs.
Precondition #7
The unit's programs are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The PSC will accept program accreditation or approval granted by NCATE-affiliated national specialty organizations. (*N/A for developmental reviews.)
7.1 Most recent state approval letter, listing approved programs.
7.2 Most recent accreditation/approval letters from national specialty organizations.
Precondition #8
The institution is accredited by the appropriate institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
8.1 Current regional accreditation letter that indicates accreditation status.
