Establishes and Enforces Georgia Educator Preparation Standards

Educator Preparation

The purpose of the Educator Preparation Division is to assure the citizens of Georgia that GaPSC-certified educators meet high standards and are well prepared for their roles in school systems and schools. In support of this purpose, as well as the mission of the GaPSC, Educator Preparation Division staff focus on three primary functions:

Educator Preparation staff in two departments, Non-Traditional Preparation and Traditional Preparation (formerly Program Approval), carry out these three functions. Non-Traditional Preparation staff work with alternative preparation program and endorsement program providers at regional education service agencies (RESAs), school systems, technical colleges, and Georgia-based non-profits, whereas Traditional Preparation staff work with Georgia four-year colleges and universities offering programs leading to educator certification. Educator Preparation Division efforts are supported by a Division Director, Data Analyst and Delivery Specialist, and a Business Operations Specialist. The success of Educator Preparation initiatives is dependent upon partnerships and frequent collaboration with representatives of other state education agencies, program providers, RESAs, local schools and school systems, and professional associations.

The Educator Preparation Division is committed to ensuring that current and prospective educators have access to high-quality educator preparation programs that recruit, prepare, and support the retention of educators who meet the needs of all Georgia learners.
