Georgia Teaching Fields

For purposes of teacher certification, Georgia's student grade ranges are divided into the following categories:

  • P-5: Pre-Kindergarten through grade 5
  • 4-8: Middle Grades
  • 6-12: High School

Some certification fields span all grade levels P-12; e.g. Art, Music, Health and Physical Education.

Teaching Endorsements* (To hold one of these, a teacher must have a certificate in a non-endorsement field.)

* An endorsement is not a full-field certification; i.e. no initial certificates are issued in endorsement fields. A certificate may not have the endorsement as its only field except in the case where a teacher moving to Georgia held the endorsement field as the single certificate field in another state.
