  Discussion

The purpose of the new rule is to establish standards for the preparation of Paraprofessionals who would meet the new qualifications for paraprofessionals set by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 2001 (ESEA; No Child Left Behind).

PSC - Approved Programs meet these standards and are one of several ways in which paraprofessionals may satisfy Federal ESEA requirements.

The standards were developed by a task force composed of representatives from local school districts (including central office personnel, teachers, and paraprofessionals), Regional Education Service Agencies, teachers’ organizations, the Georgia Department of Education, and institutions of higher education.
