Applications from eligible candidates will
be accepted until November 15, 2009 on a first come, first serve basis.
The applicant must:
- Be a fulltime Georgia public school teacher with three years teaching experience
- Hold a current and clear-renewable Georgia Teaching Certificate
- Apply for NBPTS candidacy at http://www.nbpts.org prior to the date on which the application for prepayment
of fees is made at this website. Successful applicants must provide the Professional Standards Commission (PSC)
with a printout (do not add handwritten information to the form) of the online application from "My Profile"
at http://www.nbpts.org which reflects:
- a completed application for candidacy,
- the candidate's social security number, school system and school name, and provides permission to share information with a third party,
- an original signed and notarized Promissory Note.
The required documents must be received by the PSC no later than November 15, 2009. Note: If the required documents are not received by the deadline and the required information is not complete and clear, the candidate will be ineligible for prepayment.
- Pay the $65 online Application Processing Charge and the $500 Initial Fee by credit card at the time of the
online application to NBPTS. Only a "My Profile" form which reflects NBPTS receipt of payment will be accepted as
evidence of payment and must be postmarked by November 15, 2009.
- Mail to the PSC at the address below certified mail, return receipt requested no later than November 15, 2009
1) the completed and signed Promissory Note
2) a copy of the notifying e-mail, if notified of award of pending eligibility of funding
3) a copy of the "My Profile" form that displays all of the required information including posting of NBPTS receipt of
the initial $65 Application Processing Charge and $500 Initial Fee to:

- Important change in previous policy regarding re-application for prepayment by previous applicants:
Candidates who previously applied for and were awarded state or state-managed funds in prepayment to
NBPTS, who officially withdrew from the process prior to the portfolio due date and provide evidence
that NBPTS returned funds authorized by the PSC to the PSC are now eligible to re-apply for prepayment!
- Important change in financial obligation of candidates awarded prepayment of fees to NBPTS:
Candidates who are awarded up to $1250 must pay the non-refundable and non-renewable $65 Application
Processing Charge and the $500 Initial Fee to NBPTS prior to the authorization of prepayment of the
fees by the PSC. Further, if the withdrawal occurs after the portfolio due date and the PSC is not
refunded the prepayment fees, the candidate MUST repay the amount equal to the total amount prepaid. All
withdrawals must be on official NBPTS forms and provided as copies to the PSC within 24 hours of withdrawal.
Keep dated copies of documents mailed and a legible dated copy of the mail receipt displaying your
return address and mailed to the exact and entire address shown above. The copies of documents mailed
and US postal service signed return receipt displaying the date of mailing, correct mailing address
and your return address will be required as evidence necessary to reinstate eligibility status, should
the PSC not receive the documentation specified by the deadline. If you do not receive the signed receipt
from the US Postal Service within 7 days of mailing, contact the US Postal Service to determine if the
documents were delivered to the address above. In the event that they have NOT been delivered, initiate
an official trace and if requested by the PSC, provide copies of the RESULTS of the trace, in writing. Do
not contact the PSC to see if documents have been received without first verifying delivery status with
the US Postal Service.
Notification of continued eligibility for funding and accompanying promissory notes will be sent by
e-mail only to the school e-mail address as entered by the applicant on the online application. The
school e-mail address submitted on the online application must display a portion of the individual's name
and school system's official e-mail address. Check the address entered on the online application for accuracy
prior to submitting the form, because corrections after the application is submitted will NOT be made
for data entry errors.
In the instance of school system's server block of e-mail from the PSC or other school or school-system
technical difficulties between May 15, 2009 and November 15, 2009, prohibiting the applicant's receipt of
PSC e-mail, the school system's technology administrator will be required to contact Ginny.Elliott@gapsc.com to
verify the issue. It is the applicant's responsibility to follow these procedures if return e-mail is not received
from the PSC within 72 hours of applying online. Failure to do so before November 15, 2009 will result in
forfeiture of eligibility to receive funding. It is the applicant's responsibility to respond to all PSC
correspondence in a timely manner and to check your school e-mail often. Do NOT call the PSC regarding
this issue, but rather, contact your school system's technology administrator, if you do not receive a response
to your online application within 72 hours after completing the application below.
