NCLB

On January 8, 2002, President Georgia W. Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).

Teacher and Principal Quality

Teacher quality is an important element for improving student achievement, and improving teacher quality is a major focus of Title II-A of NCLB Law. Title II-A outlines the requirements for providing highly qualified teachers and principals as a means of increasing the academic achievement of all students.

Empowerment of Parents

NCLB empowers parents by requiring schools to make more information available. Upon request, principals must provide reports indicating whether the school is in compliance with the "highly qualified" teacher requirement, and must assess the school's progress in meeting the goal of all teachers being "highly qualified" by the end of the 2005-2006 school year. Teachers who do not meet the requirement must be placed on a remediation plan to assist them in becoming highly qualified.

Parent Information

All parents are invited to browse the entire Title II-A Web site. Parents are important partners in the educational process of their children, and this special section of the Web site has been designed to respond to issues of particular interest to parents.
