Georgia TAPP Background Check Information

Candidates applying for Georgia TAPP must submit a background check to the program provider. A background check gives a history of any criminal offenses that may have been committed by an individual. There are two types of background checks, a State Background Check and a Federal Background Check. Georgia TAPP applicants must submit a State Background Check to their program providers. Federal background checks are done by the employing school system.

State Background Check

State Background Checks are done by local law enforcement agencies*. Individuals may request a State Background Check. Those requesting a background check must complete a consent form and pay a nominal fee. The local law enforcement agency will provide a printout of the criminal history for Georgia. The State Background Check will not cover other states.

Federal Background Check

Individuals cannot request a Federal Background Check. Employing school systems will request a Federal check. The Federal Background Check is necessary to cover criminal histories from other states.

Out-of-State Applicants

Individuals from other states, who are interested in applying for Georgia TAPP, should follow the procedures outlined by their local law enforcement agency to obtain a background check. (Procedures may vary from state to state.) To obtain a Georgia State Background Check, contact any Georgia local law enforcement agency.
