Teacher Certification Section - PSC Decisions and Notification

When an investigative report and recommendation for action are received from the PPC by the PSC, steps to take final action are implemented. Commission policy allows for some actions to be completed by commission staff. Other recommendations require approval by the PSC’s Professional Practices Review Committee and the full Professional Standards Commission at its regularly scheduled meeting. When a final decision to take action against an individual’s certificate is made, the applicant, PPC, and the local school system in which the individual is or was employed are notified of the decision.

Notice of Disciplinary Action

Following PSC decisions, notices of disciplinary actions are sent to Georgia school superintendents, local school system certification officials, college and university teacher preparation unit heads, college certification officials, RESA directors, and state agencies that employ educators.

In addition, notification is sent to the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) educator clearinghouse. NASDTEC members recognize a duty to protect children in the schools against injury or neglect which may occur through the wrongful acts or omissions of professional personnel. Persons found to be unfit for service in one school or jurisdiction often move on to another school or jurisdiction. For this purpose, NASDTEC members have established a central clearinghouse for information relating to school personnel, providing a structure for all jurisdictions responsible for certification of professional school personnel to exchange names of persons whose certificates have been denied, revoked, suspended, or otherwise adversely acted upon. The national clearinghouse is also notified when a suspended certificate has been reinstated and when an applicant previously denied or revoked has been granted the right to reapply.
