Teacher Certification Section - Conditional Certification
Professional certification in Georgia or clear renewable certification
is based on the completion of a colleges approved teacher preparation program or
reciprocity of a professional certificate from another jurisdiction and the
completion of all special Georgia requirements. In some cases, however, individuals may
qualify for certification before one of these routes is completed. The conditional
certificate indicates that some "condition" has not been met to qualify for
clear renewable certification.
All conditional certificates require that the individual has been
employed in a Georgia local school system, and the certificate is being requested by the
employing superintendent or designee. This request is generated in the Employers
Assurance section of the application for certification. A request for conditional
certification indicates that the applicant is the best qualified candidate for the
position, and the applicant has been informed of the outstanding conditions. Conditional
certificates are valid for a specific period of time depending on the outstanding
conditions to be met. If the outstanding requirements are not completed during the
validity of the conditional certificate, the individual may not qualify for any further
certification. Conditional certificates fall under the following titles: Provisional, Probationary, Emergency, or Non-renewable Professional.
Conversion to Clear Renewable Status
Upon the completion of all outstanding requirements, the conditional
certificate field may be converted to the clear renewable certificate field by submitting
an application for certification with the supporting documentation that all requirements
have been completed. This might include official college or staff development transcripts,
the college recommendation form, the experience verification form, or other pertinent
information. Any new fields added to an existing five-year clear renewable validity period
will carry the same five-year validity.
