Endorsement

In Georgia, certificate endorsements recognize additional expertise in specific areas. All endorsements require that the educator hold and maintain a renewable certificate in at least one full certificate field (a non-endorsement field). Renewable endorsements are earned by completing an approved endorsement program and do not require content assessment.

5-Year Induction or Professional Endorsement

An educator holding a valid Induction or Professional certificate (teaching, service, or leadership) must meet one of the following qualifications to add an endorsement:
  • Complete a state-approved program in the endorsement field;
  • Hold a valid or expired out-of-state certificate in an endorsement field comparable to an endorsement field offered by the GaPSC.
Please note: Some endorsements require that the base field meet certain qualifications. For example, a Culinary Arts endorsement may only be added to a base certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences. For specific qualifications for individual endorsements, please see the appropriate endorsement rule.

Georgia Educators who are assigned to teach in an endorsement field in which they do not meet certification requirements may be issued the following:
  • An educator holding a valid Professional certificate (teaching, service, or leadership) or an eligible Permit may be issued a 3-Year Non-Renewable Professional endorsement at the request of an employing Georgia LUA.
  • An educator holding a 5-Year Induction certificate may be issued a 3-Year Induction endorsement at the request of an employing Georgia LUA.
